Eosinophilic meningoencephalitis is characterized by an idiopathic infiltration of eosinophils into central nervous system structures resulting in damage and inflammation.
Age of Onset: 4 months - 5.5 years of age
Sex Predisposition: Males are more likely to be affected
Clinical Course:
​Clinical signs may worsen over time
Clinical Signs:
Behavioral/Mental Awareness
Behavioral abnormalities
Disorientation
Depression
Seizures
Somnolence

Posture and Appearance
All 4 limbs in rigid extension
Deviation of the head to the right
Generalized muscle tremors
Torticollis to the right

Movement
Circling
Collapse 
Head pressing
Mild ataxia
Pacing
Tetraparesis

Proprioception
Absent in front limbs
Delayed in hind limbs

Cranial Nerves
Varying cranial nerve abnormalities:
Anisocoria

Mildly contracted facial muscles
Positional strabismus
Head tilt
​Facial hypalgesia


Spinal Reflexes
Decreased both front limbs

Special Reflexes (e.g. cutaneous trunci)
Decreased gag reflex

Painful Reactions
Manipulation of the front limbs
Palpation of cervical spine
Palpation of thoracic spine

Other
Decreased appetite
Excessive salivation
Hypersensitivity to touch and sound​
Multifocal intracranial (cerebrum and brainstem)
