Masticatory muscle myositis is caused by immune-mediated destruction of type 2 muscle fibers resulting in inflammation of the masticatory muscle. ​
Age of Onset: Any age of animal can be affected
Sex Predisposition: Any sex of animal can be affected
Clinical Course:

Posture and Appearance
Bilateral enlarged masticatory muscles
Definition of bony landmarks of the skull
Unilateral or bilateral exophthalmos
Unilateral or bilateral protrusion of the third eyelid

Unable/reluctant to open mandible
Trismus

Atrophy and fibrosis of the muscle of the head
