Breed-specific polymyositis is an immune-mediated inflammatory myopathy of Hungarian Vizsla dogs.
Age of Onset: 2 - 9 years of age
Sex Predisposition: ​Any sex of animal can be affected
Clinical Course:
​Clinical signs typically progress over time
Clinical Signs:
​Behavioral/Mental Awareness
Exercise-intolerance
Polydipsia
Ptyalism

Posture and Appearance
Alopecia
Bilateral seborrhea

Cranial Nerves
Pharyngeal paralysis
Dysphagia
Regurgitation

Special Functions (e.g. respiration; urination)
Coughing
Vomiting
Increased respiratory effort
Dysphonia

Muscle Atrophy
Masticatory muscle atrophy (temporalis and masseter)

Other
​Tachypnea
​Megaesophagus
Muscle (diffuse)
Associated with an increased expression of a Dog Leukocyte Antigen Class II haplotype
