A primary myositis involving muscle cell degeneration, necrosis, and apoptosis. It is thought to be mediated by cytotoxic lymphocyte mechanisms. However, disease in German Wire-Haired Pointer dogs has not explicitly demonstrated the presence of antibodies against skeletal muscle.
Age of Onset: Any age of animal can be affected, however, disease is rare in younger animals
