​Polioencephalomyelopathy is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder primarily affecting the gray matter of the brain and spinal cord.
Age of Onset: 2-6 months of age
Sex Predisposition: Any sex of animal can be affected
Clinical Course:
Movement disordere episodes occur with excess stimulation, ecitement, and loud noises. The frequency and severity of signs icrease over tiem​
Clinical Signs:
Movement
Spastic tetraparesis (extensor tone of thoracic limbs > pelvic limbs)
Episodes of ataxia and hypermetria/dystonia of the thoracic limbs

Fatigue after movement, progressing to recumbency

Cranial Nerves
Divergent strabismus
Reduced vision
Head-tilt


Brain and spinal cord
Association with autosomal recessive MECR gene mutation
