Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis are a group of lysosomal storage disorders characterized by intracellular accumulations resulting in progressive neuronal degeneration.
Age of Onset: 14-18 months of age
Sex Predisposition: Any sex of dog can be affected
Clinical Course:
​Clinical signs slowly progress over time beginning with mental dullness progressing to convulsions and cardiac failure by 17-24 months of age.
Clinical Signs:
Behavioral/Mental Awareness
Seizures
Cognitive decline
Personality change
Aggression
Hyperactivity
Self-mutilation

Movement
Ataxia
Head tremors
Tetraparesis

Proprioception
Proprioceptive deficits

Cranial Nerves
Visual impairment
Intracranial - diffuse
Autosomal recessive CLN8 gene mutation
