Masticatory Muscle Myositis
Masticatory muscle myositis is caused by immune-mediated destruction of type 2 muscle fibers resulting in inflammation of the masticatory muscle.
Age of Onset: Any age of animal can be affected
Sex Predisposition: Any sex of animal can be affected

Bilateral enlarged masticatory muscles
Definition of bony landmarks of the skull
Unilateral or bilateral exophthalmos
Unilateral or bilateral protrusion of the third eyelid

Trismus (unable/reluctant to open mandible)
Muscle Atrophy
Initital swelling followed by atrophy and fibrosis of the muscle of the head
Pain Sensation
Facial myalgia

Mandibular lymph node swelling
